Premium Outlet mall in Edmonton

Retail therapy!  I enjoyed making this 90-second iPhone video of Edmonton’s only Premium Outlet shopping centre located near the airport. The 428,000 square foot mall opened May 2, and includes approximately 100 stores with friendly staff and more than 2,000 parking spaces. © Grant Cree Event Media. 

Battle of the Atlantic Ceremony 

In this 3-minute video, you’ll learn why the annual Battle of the Atlantic Ceremony is so important to sailors of the Royal Canadian Navy. This ceremony took place on May 6, 2018 at HMCS NONSUCH in Edmonton. It features Commodore Sean Cantelon, Director General Canadian Forces Morale and Welfare services for the Canadian Armed Forces. He was the guest of honour who delivered a brief yet informative speech that I highlighted with Second World War footage of Canadian sailors serving on the Atlantic ocean. The Battle of the Atlantic was a pivotal struggle from September 1939 to May 1945 during the Second World War.

Navy Bike Ride, Edmonton 

I produced this 3-minute video of the 2nd annual Navy Bike Ride on May 5, 2018 at HMCS NONSUCH in Edmonton. This fun activity promotes fitness and educates people about the Royal Canadian Navy while raising funds to support Veterans, military members and their families. 

Using bear spray 

Watch this 8-minute video to learn from wilderness expert Bruce Zawalsky how to properly use bear spray. Bruce uses a bear spray canister to teach you how to properly use, store and handle bear spray if you travel into or through bear country, i.e. anywhere in Canada's Wilderness. This is a vital life-saving skill for all wilderness travellers. Loyal Edmonton Regiment range day 

This 3-minute video features soldiers of The Loyal Edmonton Regiment (LER) who supervised small arms training for Army Reserve recruits enrolled in the Basic Military Qualification Course. This took place on April 28, 2018 at the Edmonton Garrison weapons range. All recruits were required to demonstrate their marksmanship drills and skills with the C-7 service rifle under the watchful eyes of experienced LER soldiers who served as range safety staff. © 2018 Grant Cree Event Media. 

Spring 2018 art show opens in St. Albert

My 2-minute video features two local artists who helped launch a spring art show hosted by the St. Albert Painters Guild during the weekend of April 27 to 29, 2018 in St. Albert Place. The evening reception on April 27 attracted dozens of people who strolled about the lobby admiring hundreds of pieces on display that were created by 52 artists. Video by Grant Cree Event Media. 

Naval Reserve Commander visits Edmonton

This 3-minute video documents Commodore Marta Mulkins, Commander of the Royal Canadian Naval Reserve, visiting sailors in Edmonton during her tour from March 14 to 16, 2018. Commodore Mulkins visited Alberta to conduct outreach meetings and connect with local sailors. Her tour of Edmonton included meetings with the Military Family Resource Centre and Lieutenant-Governor Lois Mitchell. Commodore Mulkins also met the Edmonton Naval Community Committee and Brigadier-General Trevor Cadieu, Commander of 3rd Canadian Division. I produced this video in my capacity as a Public Affairs representative working in partnership with the Command Team of HMCS NONSUCH in Edmonton. 

Commonwealth Day 2018 

This 9-minute video features members of the Edmonton Royal Commonwealth Society (RCS) who celebrated Commonwealth Day on March 12, 2018 at the Jefferson Armoury. The RCS engages with youth, civil society, business and government networks to address issues that matter to the Citizens of the Commonwealth. Its primary focus is the promotion of young people throughout the Commonwealth. Karate tournament


Congratulations everyone!  Here's my 4-minute video of the International Shotokan Karate Federation (ISKF) Alberta provincial championship that took place on 3 March 2018 at The King's University in Edmonton. The event included 110 competitors representing nine ISKF dojos from across the province.  This video features interviews with the championship organizer, one of several championship judges, and two competitors who won medals.  © 2018 video by Grant Cree Event Media.

IPSOS looks into the future 

In this 30-minute video, Darrell Bricker of IPSOS speaks to the Canadian Defence Association (CDA) about “Looking Into The Future”. His fascinating presentation focuses on how the old Canada is giving way to a new Canada through the emerging demographic forces of fertility/ aging, urbanization and multiculturalism. He provides revealing charts based on empirical data, statistics and current research from around the globe. Mr. Bricker concludes his presentation with what those combined implications mean to the Canadian military now and into the future. General Vance at 2018 defence conference

General Jonathan Vance, Chief of the Defence Staff, was a keynote speaker during the Conference of Defence Associations annual conference on 22 – 23 February 2018 at the Chateau Laurier in Ottawa. World’s Longest Hockey Game

Watch my 2-minute video to learn about the World’s Longest Hockey Game at Saiker’s Acres near Sherwood Park. The 24/7 hockey action has 40 players skating for 250 hours each from February 9 to 19, 2018 to raise funds for the Alberta Cancer Foundation. Dancers with RCMP Pipes & Drums


Hope you enjoy my short video of Highland dancers performing with the RCMP K Division Regimental Pipes and Drums of Alberta.  This took place on January 27, 2018 during the 20th annual Robbie Burns Night at the Italian Cultural Center in Edmonton. I was there as a guest, so I recorded this on my iPhone … but like photojournalists say: The best camera is always the one you’ve got with you when something cool happens! 


Troops home from Latvia

Here's my 3-minute video of Canadian soldiers arriving home at Edmonton on January 19, 2018 following their 7-month deployment on Operation REASSURANCE in Latvia. This video features news media scrum interviews with the Commanding Officer of 1 PPCLI (First Battalion, Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry) and one of his soldiers. Bold Eagle 

Watch my 5-minute video to learn about Bold Eagle, a unique military program for Aboriginal youth living in western Canada or north-western Ontario. I produced this video during the annual Bold Eagle Appreciation Feast on December 2, 2017 when the Aboriginal Veterans Society of Alberta hosted graduates and supporters at the Kingsway Royal Canadian Legion in Edmonton. It’s always a privilege for me to cover The Soldier On program.  This 3-minute video features participants in the Curling Day for 10 members (serving and retired) of the Canadian Armed Forces on November 24, 2017 at the Edmonton Garrison Memorial Curling Club. Royal Canadian Artillery Band concert

Military musicians of the Royal Canadian Artillery Band performed their 6th annual “Musical Salute To Our Veterans” that took place on Nov. 5, 2017 in Edmonton City Hall.  This 3-minute video features the Canadian Military Wives Choir singing “In Flanders Fields”, and a soldier performing Dean Brody’s "Footprints of a Giant".  They are very talented musicians! © 2017 video by Grant Cree Event Media. 


Entertainment at Edmonton swearing-in ceremony

This 2-minute video features live performers during the City of Edmonton swearing-in ceremony on October 24, 2017 at city hall.  Highlights include a pianist and singers performing before the ceremony. Canada’s Defence Policy announcement

Battle of the Atlantic service

Here’s my 5-minute video featuring members of Edmonton’s Navy community who gathered on May 7, 2017 to participate in the Battle of the Atlantic ceremony at HMCS Nonsuch.  Sailors were on parade with dozens of local Sea Cadets to commemorate the occasion.  The Battle of the Atlantic was fought during the Second World War - from 1939 to 1945 - against Nazi Germany to gain control of the North Atlantic Ocean. © 2017 video by Grant Cree Event Media. 



ANZAC Day service, Edmonton

I had the privilege of covering the 102nd ANZAC Day memorial service, and produced this 4-minute video that features highlights and interviews.  The ceremony was hosted by volunteers with the Edmonton ANZAC Day Committee on Sunday, April  23, April 2017 at the Brigadier Jefferson Armoury in Edmonton.  Dignitaries included Lieutenant Governor Lois Mitchell; Turkish Honorary Consulate General Kenan Tan; and Government of Alberta Military Liaison Nicole Goehring.  (NOTE:  The military acronym ANZAC is the Australia New Zealand Army Corps). © 2017 video by Grant Cree Event Media. 


Canadian Army in Normandy 

Here's a treat for military history buffs. What happened on the long days after D-Day?  I had the opportunity to provide video coverage of that topic during a formal dinner on April 22, 2017 at the Jefferson Armoury in Edmonton.   Guest speaker Thomas Bradley showcases Canadian Army participation during the Normandy Campaign in France, June 1944.  His compelling presentation includes soldiers’ stories, vivid maps, and dozens of rare photos that seem to leap off the screen.  © 2017 video by Grant Cree Event Media.

Veteran Lyle McIvor recalls the Battle of Kapyong

This is my documentary style video of Private (Ret’d) Lyle McIvor.  He served with 2nd Battalion, Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry (2 PPCLI) during the Korean War, and fought at the historic Battle of Kapyong that raged from 22 to 25 April 1951.  Despite being surrounded by hundreds of Chinese troops, the outnumbered Patrica’s held their ground in the face of unrelenting attacks. Their battlefield prowess prevented a potentially costly defeat for the South Korean and UN forces.  The actions by Private McIvor and other members of 2 PPCLI who fought at Battle of Kapyong were noticed by the Americans. They awarded 2 PPCLI the United States Presidential Unit Citation, a rare honour for a Canadian unit. © 2017 video by Grant Cree Event Media. 

RCMP Regimental March

Canadian veteran honoured by Korean government

This is my 4-minute video of Canadian veteran Stanley Ridsdale being honoured by the Korean government during a ceremony on January 10, 2017 at the Kipness Centre for Veterans in Edmonton.  Mr. Ridsdale, a Metis from Northern Alberta, was a soldier with Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry (PPCLI) during the Korean War.  In 1953, he was seriously wounded in combat. 

On behalf of the Korean government, James Yeom and Thomas Rho from the Edmonton Korean Canadian Association presented the “Ambassador For Peace” certificate and medal to Mr. Ridsdale.  The once proud warrior suffers from dementia and is confined to a wheelchair.  Soldiers from 3rd battalion, PPCLI and numerous veterans joined with friends to celebrate the occasion.  John MacDonald, President of the Aboriginal Veterans Society of Alberta, nominated Mr. Ridsdale for the award in 2016 as a way to express appreciation for his military service to Canada.  © 2017 video by Grant Cree Event Media. 


HMCS Athabaskan 2016 tour

Here's my 5-minute video that condenses a 2-hour guided tour of HMCS Athabaskan on 7 December 2016 at the CFB Halifax dockyard. The ship's final voyage begins 9 January 2017 and shortly after returning to port in early March, the Athabaskan will be decommissioned.

Bold Eagle 2016 Feast

Graduates and supporters of the Bold Eagle Aboriginal youth program gathered on November 19, 2016 in the Kingsway Royal Canadian Legion.  The annual Appreciation Feast was hosted by the Aboriginal Veterans Society of Alberta.  The event was their way to share camaraderie, present awards, and enjoy a lively performance by the Metis Jiggers.   I had the honour of serving as the Bold Eagle Public Affairs Officer for five summers at CFB Wainwright, and can tell you it’s an excellent 6-week program. 

Sarah Holmstrom welcomed as new Padre

Here’s my 3-minute story of the new Padre who was welcomed into the Edmonton United Services Institute (EUSI) on November 13, 2016 at All Saints’ Anglican Cathedral.  This video briefly showcases what EUSI is about while also introducing Padre Sarah Holmstrom.

Ghost Tour: Edmonton

I had some Halloween fun on October 31, 2016 covering Nadine Bailey, a professional storyteller with Edmonton Ghost Tours, as she hosted several dozen visitors on an evening tour of the Old Strathcona neighbourhood.  This 1-minute video shows Nadine talking about  ghosts, hauntings, murders and mysteries.

Lieutenant-Colonel Nick Grimshaw, Chief of Operations for 3rd Canadian Division based at Edmonton Garrison, presents information on peacekeeping during a symposium hosted on September 17, 2016 by Edmonton United Services Institute. 


The Honourable Laurie Hawn, former Member of Parliament and retired RCAF fighter pilot, provides a political perspective and reality check during his discussion about peacekeeping.  His 30-minute presentation was during a symposium hosted on September 17, 2016 by Edmonton United Services Institute. 


Major (Ret’d) Joe Howard, a legal analyst specializing in international affairs, shares his insights on Canada’s involvement in the United Nations.   His 25-minute presentation was during a symposium hosted on September 17, 2016 by Edmonton United Services Institute. 


Dr. Rob Huebert, Professor of Political Science at the University of Calgary, provides comments and recommendations based on four presentations by expert panellists who discussed:  “Peacekeeping vs. Peacemaking and the role of the Canadian military.” 


Prairie Gardens & Adventure Farms 2016 promo video.  I enjoyed working with owner/ operator Tam Andersen and her friendly team to produce this video to help get the good word out about this remarkable family business located near Bon Accord, Alberta.   


Several high-energy athletes competed in the 2016 World CrossFit games at a locally owned business in Morinville, Alberta.  This is my news-style video coverage of that event.  

Ever wonder about the behind-the-scenes action of paratroopers getting ready to jump?  Watch my 4-minute news-style video.  You'll see soldiers from 3rd Battalion, Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry (3 PPCLI) participating in a winter jump.  It begins with them rigging their equipment in a hangar at Edmonton International Airport, on board a CC-130J Hercules and... GO!!  This took place over CFB Wainwright and the Rocky Mountains in December 2015.
